Signup Fee

There’s a one time sign up fee of $85. Renewal fees are $85 per scout, but the Shelbyville Lions Club generously pays our renewal fees and we are very grateful to them!!

Uniform

Uniforms are not required, but are encouraged. To purchase the basics(Shirt, Hat, Neckerchief, and Slide) it will run between $60-$90. The most expensive part- the shirt- can be worn for several years and you can often find perfectly good used shirts on ebay.

Click Here for Age Specific Uniform Information and to shop online. We recommend you actually purchase your uniform from the local Scout Shop in Decatur as they have several patches pre-sewn and will assist you in getting exactly what you need.

Tip: Buy a Medium button down shirt. It will be a bit large on the Tigers(1st Graders), but often still fits for the last year it’s needed as a Bear(3rd Grade).

We sometimes wear matching T-Shirts, known as Class B Uniforms, to camp and casual events.

Handbook

The handbook is optional. They run about $25 with a new one needed for each rank.

Click Here to Shop for Handbooks online, visit our local Scout Shop in Decatur, or wait for our pop up shop in the fall!

Dues

We are currently not charging Scout dues as our scouts have been able to support themselves through fundraising activities like our Annual Popcorn Sale and the Possum Lodge Sandwich Sale along with some generous donations.

Scout Life Magazine

This magazine is NOT at all a requirement to purchase. But, kids love to get mail, and this magazine has tons of ideas for all things scouting- from derby car ideas to gear guides.

Right now, the magazine is FREE on the app or $15 for a year for scouts.
